Nordic Walking: The Next Step?

Suggestions for instructors interesting for those who want to teach -- and those who don't.

David Downer, a British NW instructor and moderator of a NW eCommunity/discussion board, always makes interesting observations about the sport. He has written "How to Make Lots of Money from Your Nordic Walking Classes," a lengthy post on his NW blog with suggestions for those who want to teach or who already do so. (Visit his blog and scroll down to his March 8 post to read the whole thing.) His model is positioning Nordic Walking the way fitness instructors/studios plan and market their classes to keep people returning. Punch cards are a popular way to go, he notes.

Clients who have paid in advance are more likely to return, which is good for both instructor and client. Aerobics, weight training, Pilates, yoga and other fitness pros conduct classes like this all the time -- and people love to work out a a regular place and time and with largely the same group.

The last section of his post is a suggestion list for instructors to set up a fitness-oriented class format, and even if you never want to teach or even take a series of classes, this can help you and perhaps your walkmates get the most fitness benefits from your own Nordic Walks.
